Community Involvement

The Members of Great Harbor Yacht Club are committed to giving back to the island that we all call home.

NANTUCKET COMMUNITY SAILING

Since 2005, Great Harbor Yacht Club has co-hosted Nantucket Race Week (NRW) with Nantucket Yacht Club. The event benefits Nantucket Community Sailing. GHYC Members are instrumental in supporting much that goes on during NRW, thereby supporting the mission of NCS in offering access to sailing and watersport program to Nantucketers, in the form of scholarships and free community outreach programs. In addition, GHYC supports the Nantucket High School Sailing Team by providing use of our boats and the Jobson Sailing Center as a boathouse.

NANTUCKET LAND COUNCIL

Great Harbor Yacht Club donates $35,000 annually to Nantucket Land Council to fund scientific projects that focus on local marine and coastal resources. Recent projects have included:

• A study on eelgrass transplant and mooring
• Funding for shellfish propagation facilities equipment
• A study on shellfish spat migration
• A study on the effect of algae on scallop population and eelgrass
• Funding for water quality monitoring equipment and a related study

EGAN MARITIME INSTITUTE

Great Harbor Yacht Club funds an annual scholarship for local students to attend the Sea of Opportunities aboard the historic Tallship Lynx. http://www.n-magazine.com/lynx-to-the-past/
