Waterfront
Great Harbor Yacht Club offers Members and their guests unparalleled access to the water from our corner of the harbor. The waterfront programs are the lifeblood of our club. Although GHYC is not the island’s oldest yacht club, we have brought a fresh perspective to racing and invigorated yachting on Nantucket. We are extremely proud of all we that we have accomplished since 2003.
Our marina provides dock space for Members and their guests, either seasonally or as transient visitors. The Great Lady, GHYC’s Crosby launch, delivers sailors to their boats and to our fleet of Rhodes 19s moored in the harbor. Club-owned kayaks and paddleboard provide Members an excellent opportunity to explore nearby creeks and the beautiful Monomoy coastline.
We are honored to be included as founding members of the National Sailing Hall of Fame in Annapolis, Maryland.
The Jobson Racing Series began in 2005 with a handful of GHYC sailors who were eager to advance their racing skills. Fast forward to today, and the Jobson Racing Series on Thursday nights is all-island event with starts for Rhodes 19s, the growing Herreshoff/Haven fleet, and Nantucket Alerions.
Members fondly think of GHYC’s adult sailing program as summer camp for adults. It gives beginning sailors the chance to get out on the water with experienced instructors and mingle with Members who are seasoned skippers. The Club offers regular clinics for anyone new to the water, as well as for anyone interested in honing racing skills.
The weekly Junior Sailing classes provide hands-on learning at its best. With limited group size and experienced instructors, children progress through our programs and become confident, fearless sailors, learning nautical safety and developing an appreciation for marine life and our responsibility for it.
The Junior Yacht Club provides all the ingredients for a summer vacation to remember. Children and grandchildren of all ages come together for drop-in hours, to play games, enjoy watersports, create craft projects, and participate in scheduled events that include a Field Day, Pirate Cruises, Movie Night at the Pool, Weekly Family Night Dinner, and Bingo.
The fishing program at the Club has only one goal: to get Members out on the spectacular waters surrounding Nantucket. We’re never sure who’s smile is bigger — the young fisherman catching his first scup on our docks or seasoned Members coming in from an excursion, swapping fish tales about the big one that got away.
Our marina provides unparalleled access to all of Nantucket's waterfront activities and an ideal place to dock your boat. Slips are available to members seasonally or on a transient basis. Our launch provides access to boats moored in the harbor. We organize group excursions to Chatham, Coatue, Martha's Vineyard and Tuckernuck in season, as well as off-season trips to exotic locations.
Family Cruises and Family Sails are a great opportunity for Members to gather together and explore various beaches in and around Nantucket. Adventures to Florida, the Virgin Islands, Antigua, and, most recently, Bermuda for America’s Cup regularly occur during the off-season.
