FISHING
Dear Great Harbor Fishing Club Member,
It is time to re-up your Fishing Club Membership! If you were one of the many who witnessed bluefish leap clear of the water or whales breach within feet of the boat, saw the sheer joy of kids catching their first fish, or watched the sun set as you cast from Great Point, you realize that fishing on Nantucket is a truly unique experience. If you were one of the few members who did not fish as often as you had hoped last summer, you know what you missed and I hope you are planning on adding fishing to your Summer's Resolutions!
As you know, you don't need a boat to join the Great Harbor Fishing Club and you don't need to know how to fish. Club membership provides an exciting way for all GHYC members to get out on the water, meet new people, learn new skills, spend time with family and friends, and get to know our beautiful island and its local waters in a new way.
Last year, club members caught blue fin and yellow fin tuna, sharks, striped bass, bluefish, bonito, false albacore, fluke, black sea bass and scup. An added bonus of fishing club membership this year, is having the club clean, prepare, and serve your catch to you and your guests fresh from the ocean.
One of the great joys of being a member of the club is getting a chance to learn from club director Corey Gammill, whose years of experience and deep knowledge of the tides, winds, temperatures, secret spots, and fishing techniques lead to quick success on the water. Regardless of your current fishing skills, you are sure to enjoy his company and improve with his help.
Attached is a video sent out over the holidays that summarizes the success of many of the club's members from last summer. We hope that this video inspires you to get on the water more and to sign up today for the fishing club.

GHYC Fishing Program

The goal for the GHYC Fishing Program is to educate members about the fishing opportunities that Nantucket has to offer. The Program would achieve this goal by creating a fishing environment around the club that focuses on involvement and collaboration. This Summer we will continue to have our successful clinics while adding more community fishing gatherings.
This Summer the Fishing Program will include weekly clinics such as:
- Children's fishing clinic on Tuesday mornings
- Women's fishing clinic on Wednesday evenings
- Friday fishing gathering on Friday evenings
- Monday morning Fishing Club Charters from the club for groups of members
Special events this summer will include:
- Member-Member Fishing Tournament on Friday July 2nd
- Family Fishing Tournament on Saturday July 31st
- Season Long Tournament for Largest Striped Bass, Bluefish, and Bonito for youth and adult categories ending on August 21st
- Great Point Fishing expedition on July 15th
- Tuna Fishing day on August 16th
- 2 children's club charters on July 13th and August 17th
- 2 Women's club charters on July 7th and August 18th
- Squid fishing night on July 8th.
As you can see from the weekly programs as well as the special events, the goal is not only instruction, but learning through community events and getting out on the water. One highlight to point out is the charters that will be running from GHYC. Every Monday morning and more often if the demand is high enough, there will be a boat to take members out for a four hour fishing trip. This is a great opportunity for members to come together with other members for a morning out on the water. There will also be two opportunities for kids to get out on the water as well.
